The command staff of GS1 perform the same functions on the U.S.S. ColdFire. In addition they are backed up by the following officers who fulfill their duties when they are occupied elsewhere or when the command staff must stay on GS1. In those situations when both Captain Mallory and Commander Fotheran must stay on GS1; Commander Mike Vollmer is in command of the U.S.S. ColdFire and on those occasions he is referred to as ‘Captain’.
