Biography:
Eve’s childhood was a normal one until the shuttle crash on her 10th birthday. The family was going to Dublin to celebrate, when the on-board systems failed, and the shuttle crashed. Both parents were killed, and Eve left apparently paralyzed and brain-dead, as well as loosing one arm and both legs.
This was not the case under normal circumstances brain death would have occurred, but the damage to the brain only severed the links to movement and all but destroyed the speech centers. Eve was otherwise fully conscious and self-aware, a fact that went undiscovered by Doctors for 1 week. A Vulcan Doctor who was puzzled by the higher brain activity made the discovery. He linked to Eve and discovered the truth.
Over the next years, Eve’s life was a series of operations and treatments designed to restore some semblance of normality. Re-grown limbs were rejected by her body, so fully mechanical replacements were necessary. Cybernetic implants were inserted into her brain to replace the areas destroyed.
She became fascinated by the technology, and the slow pace of upgrades in the field, and made some suggestions of her own in that area. To such an extent, that the last upgrade included memory chips that would enhance and act as backup to her own memory.
During her treatments she studied hard and kept up her schoolwork. Once she was out of the hospital and away from Doctors, she applied the same intensity and stubbornness that had kept her alive and sane to her education. At 17, she applied to, and was accepted by, Oxford University. Once there, she stunned students and faculty alike by studying three doctorate courses at once. It took her 8 years, but her course work, projects, and final passing marks (she came 1st in all three doctorates), made certain that several Medical & Cybernetic Research Centers asked her to join them.
Eve then spent the next years making great leaps and improvements in the field of Cybernetics and Bio-Mechanical interfaces (some of the groundwork she laid is still in use today), becoming one of the most prominent people in her field. She was awarded, among other things, a Nobel Prize for her work in 2270, a fact that brought her to the notice of Starfleet. They offered her a job in their Sciences Division, but she turned them down.
In 2271 V’Ger came to Earth. After the crisis, it was decided to send a ship, The Alonzo, along V’Ger’s flight path in an attempt to make contact with the Machine Race. The Alonzo was a Joint Federation/Klingon science mission, with one or two civilian specialists. One such was Doctor Eve Mallory.
The Alonzo left in 2272, sending back regular signals, until 1 year later, when a garbled message was received, saying something about a wormhole. Ships sent to investigate did find a wormhole, but it was discovered that while it could be safely traveled one way, the other put intolerable pressures on the object. The Alonzo was deemed lost, and no further ships were sent.
In 2373, The USS Nova was conducting an exploration of the Lenris Nebula, when the Alonzo approached, traveling at Transwarp speeds. It slowed down as it neared the Nova, and beamed Doctor Mallory directly to the Bridge. It then returned the way it had come, accelerating to Transwarp almost immediately and rendering pursuit impossible.
It was discovered that Doctor Mallory, like Lieutenant Ilia before her, had been re-made into a perfect replica of her former self. But unlike Ilia, Doctor Mallory was fully aware and sentient. However, she had no memories of how she was returned or why the Machine Race had returned only her. When she awoke, she believed that it was still 2273, and the Alonzo had just seemingly started to fall apart around her after a bad collision.
When the Nova docked at Lenris Station some two months later, Doctor Mallory was thoroughly debriefed and sent to Earth for testing and more debriefing. She coined the term ‘replicant’ to describe herself, taking the phrase from an old 20th century movie
Eventually, she was released and ‘encouraged’ to join Starfleet as a Science Officer and full Lieutenant. She was posted to the USS Grail as Assistant Chief Science Officer, only to be promoted to Chief Science Officer when her superior died three months into the journey.
She served aboard the Grail until it’s return in 2382. After extensive debriefings, she was promoted and assigned as the Science Head of Starbase 101, where she remained for 2 years until being promoted to full Commander and assigned as XO to the USS Crazy Horse.
Her first mission aboard the Crazy Horse was to track down the pirate Denys Fotheran, but things quickly got out of hand due to the duplicity of a rogue SFI agent called Stolath who turned out to be a replicant. With the Crazy Horse and 3 other Starfleet ships captured by Stolath and his allies, she was forced to join forces with Fotheran. Together, they freed the Crazy Horse, and were able to defeat Stolath before he could bring his insane plans to fruition. A legendary partnership was forged.
Eve called in many of the favors she was owed and was able to get Starfleet to offer Fotheran a choice; Spend the rest of his life in a prison colony, or join Starfleet. He chose Starfleet.
Eve remained as XO of the Crazy Horse for two more years, until an incident at a Starfleet medical research station caused a virulent and fatal plague to be released, infecting all aboard, including an away team from the Crazy Horse, including herself. As a replicant she was immune but had to remain onboard due to the quarantine. She remained on the station for 1 month until everyone else was dead and the authorities were convinced the plague spores were dead.
She was greatly affected by this, and Starfleet gave her psychiatric leave. She returned to Earth to live in Ireland for 2 years. Starfleet then recalled her to serve as Captain for a Training Cruise; one of the Cadets turned out to be Denys Fotheran. The Cruise ran into complications during the mission due to the reappearance of a being that had plagued the Grail during its long mission. Once again, with the help of Fotheran they managed to win the day.
Afterwards, Eve returned to Starfleet, this time working first at the Daystrom Institute and then the Utopia Planitia Shipyards to build a new class of deep space explorer, the ColdFire class. Once the new ship was built, she took it on a routine test run, requesting and getting Denys Fotheran as part of her crew. The run turned out to be anything but routine, but Fotheran and Mallory brought the ship and her crew safely home.
After that, she was assigned as commander of Gamma Space One, the central command for the Federations newly crowned Gamma Territory, on the other side of the Bajoran wormhole. She requested that Fotheran be assigned as her XO and this was approved.
Notes:
Eve has an adopted daughter, Caitlyn (Cait) Amarantha Mallory, whom she adopted as her own a year into the Grail’s mission. Caitlyn was only 3 months old when Eve adopted her, and 10 by the time the Grail returned
Despite her mechanical status (she prefers Replicant rather than android), and apparent lack of ageing, she does not consider herself superior to anyone else. She is friendly and open with people but does not make friends easily. She speaks with a soft Southern Irish accent that completely disappears when she is under pressure or deeply involved in her work. She enjoys the music, television and movies of the late 20th & early 21st Century. Often her speech is peppered with sayings from that era.
The sophistication of her construction is beyond anything previously experienced. She looks, feels, smells and tastes like a normal human being. It is not until you get down to the cellular level that you discover that she is constructed from silicon, rather than any organic material
