Neville Bermiss is a member of the Fabrini race, renowed for their exceptional medical expertise and knowledge. Even the mid-23erd Century The Fabrini had cures for thousands of diseases that baffled even the most sophisticated and knowledgable of Federation medical experts. Many Fabrini left their worldship Yonada and settled on various planets, including Earth. Neville's parents were among them. He was born and raised on Earth but fiercely holds onto his Fabrini heritage and practices Fabrini religious doctrines.

Neville came to attention of Eve Mallory during the events of Training Cruise and when she was given command of Gamma Space One she requested that he be transferred there. He is currently studying under CMO Victor Utchenko and when the USS ColdFire is taken out on missions it is usually Dr. Bermiss who is in charge of Sickbay.
